Thank you to all who attended the FABRIC Community Visioning Workshop – it was a success! We were able to learn from our Science Design Drivers, explore the node design, topology design, and software design, and learn from our community during the breakout sessions. Learn more about our takeaways by reading the Community Workshop Report.

Lessons Learned

As the world grapples with sweeping changes caused by society’s attempt to deal with the spread of SARS-CoV-2, many industries have been affected. Academics thrive on meeting in person to share ideas, review each other’s work, and co-build new scientific directions. Now, planned in-person events have moved online since meeting in person is not currently an option. Like many, the FABRIC team quickly confronted the challenge of achieving the same results online that would have happened face-to-face. This report is a summary of lessons learned throughout the two events that moved online with five weeks’ notice, spanned four days, and included more than 350 people over 147 institutions across 15 countries. Hopefully you can learn from worked well for us and from our mistakes in order to plan an even better event.
