On October 7–8, 2025, the University of Kentucky hosted An Introduction to AI for Research and Education, a two-day workshop focused on applying AI in both educational and research settings. Organized by the University of Kentucky Center for Computational Sciences (CCS) with support from the NSF ACCESS Program Support Team (Shelley Knuth, PI, University of Colorado), the event featured Jim Griffioen, Director of CCS, presenting on AI: Compute & Data as part of an Executive Panel on AI: Strategy, Plans, Challenges, and Opportunities, including an introduction to Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). Additional sessions led by Mami Hayashida, Research Computing System Professional, and Vikram Gazula, CCS User/Facilitation Manager, covered Resources for AI: Where and How Do I Find Them?, highlighting NSF ACCESS allocations via the ARA tool and FABRIC—the Adaptive Programmable Research Infrastructure for Computer Science and Science Applications—as a key cyberinfrastructure solution for AI research and computational applications. The workshop demonstrated how resources like FABRIC provide scalable, flexible computing environments that enhance both classroom instruction and advanced research.
