Hi,
When i try to do an random experiment, i couldn’t create my slice, it shows me an error called silver name doesn’t match the expected regular expression. Even after i create the name without any space or any special character. Anyone direct me with this
September 7, 2023 at 2:24 pm #5238Hi Yuvaraj,
The Sliver name regex allows strings consisting of alphanumeric characters, underscores, hyphens, and periods, with a length between 2 and 255 characters. Would you mind sharing the name you tried to create a slice with?
Also thank you for reporting this issue. I’ll update Portal Slice Builder with more informative helper text regarding the naming rule.

September 7, 2023 at 3:01 pm #5240Hi Yuvaraj, are you able to create a slice from Portal now? I just tried creating a slice named as
sliverr
and it worked without error. If you could reproduce the error, please send us a screenshot of the error. Thank you!September 7, 2023 at 3:07 pm #5241This is the screen shot.
September 7, 2023 at 3:12 pm #5243Thank you for sharing the screenshot. Could you please also send a screenshot of the full slice topology?
September 7, 2023 at 3:15 pm #5244Here it is.
September 7, 2023 at 3:38 pm #5246Thank you Yuvaraj!
It looks like you added a Facility Port without name to the slice topology and this is a bug (portal is designed to provide the Facility Port list to choose from based on the project’s permission tags; and if there is no Facility Port tag for the project, the Facility Port selection should be disabled). Please take a look at this article about FABRIC Facility Port. Also here is the guide article for creating a slice in Portal Slice Builder.
Sorry for the inconvenience this issue caused! I’ll create a ticket and fix this bug soon.
Best,
Yaxue

September 7, 2023 at 4:06 pm #5248Yuvaraj,
In general we very strongly recommend that new users start by using our Jupyter Example notebooks. Please take a look at the Getting Started section of the documentation and from there try the notebooks.
September 11, 2023 at 1:16 pm #5263Tried now regarding new topology creation and facing the same issue and attached the screenshot for the same. it is not letting me to choose the facility port. Please let me know ETA for getting this issue resolved in the Fabric portal.
September 11, 2023 at 1:34 pm #5265Most specialized components require a permission on the project to use them (please take a look at the linked documentation). The project that was created for your class does not have those permissions because you did not indicate the need for that. If you are simply trying to learn about FABRIC and want to use some specialized components I can temporarily add you to the tutorial project that has many specialized permissions – we can keep you in that project for a few weeks.
September 11, 2023 at 1:41 pm #5266That would be highly appreciated for now. But for future class project, I want the project with all the required specialised components. Please create one or let me know what is the procedure to create one with all the requirements.
Once you give temporarily access to those specialised components, let me know.
September 11, 2023 at 1:54 pm #5267Hello,
I’ve added you to the tutorial project. Be sure to select that project when creating slices.
For your class – in the questionnaire you did not indicate any need for specialized resources. FABRIC has a relatively small number of these (GPUs, SmartNICs etc) so we prioritize their use for researchers over educational uses. If you think your class will require their use you will need to fill out the class request form again with an updated description so it can be reviewed.
