Hi, I am trying to create a slice and I have tried many times, but all the time it throws an error in the network table, and slice status is closing. The error is[screenshot also attached]:

“redeem predecessor reservation# b564689c-3a9a-4fec-a161-80f36ae2b6c6 is in a terminal state, failing the reservation# 62910c51-c676-4709-8e8b-be57e9ae1c08#” [with different IDs]

Please let me know how to solve it.

        Hi Manas,

Could you please look for Closed/Dead slices on the portal to check the failure reason?

I looked some of the VMs requested by your slice were in Failed state with “Insufficient resources error”. Since VMs could not be provisioned, network is closed as the VMs which are pre-requisite for it are in failed state.

        Thanks,
        Komal

@Komal, thank you for your reply, yes there are slices in the closing/ dead state. There are many such instances. Will you please tell me how to remove them or if you can remove all of them, please advice.

The closed/dead slices do not have any resources associated with them. They get cleared periodically. Slices Dead/Closing older than 30 days are removed automatically.

I was just trying to suggest that when your slice closes, it could be helpful to see a failure reason on the portal to modify the request accordingly as in this case ucsd-w9.fabric-testbed.net cannot accomodate the VMs requested. So altering your slice request would be helpful.

            Thanks,
            Komal

              Hi Komal,

When I create a cluster of VMs (e.g., in SALT), I don’t see the above error and the cluster is created successfully. However, when Manas does the same, he is getting the error. Did something get messed up with his account? Could you please check if the error is being caused because there are several Closed slices under his name?

              Any help is much appreciated!

              Thanks,

              Praveen

                Hi Praveen,

This error is unrelated to the number of user’s dead/closed slices. The slice requested by Manas, was requesting VMs on UCSD rack and specific workers: ucsd-w7.fabric-testbed.net, ucsd-w8.fabric-testbed.net, ucsd-w9.fabric-testbed.net.

UCSD rack has only 6 workers, so the slice could not be allocated and the error “Insufficient Resources” was returned.
