Dear experimenters,
We are excited to announce the upgrade to FABRIC Software Stack Release 1.2. It has a number of critical enhancements and features, so please read on.
Key changes are reflected in the Release Notes. These updates are foundational to enable facility ports, mirror ports and other new features in your experiments. Watch for FABlib updates in the coming days to be able to start using these features.
One important feature that bears calling out is the new project-based permissions system – starting with this release in order for you to be able to use many of the advanced resources in FABRIC, your project will have to be tagged with specific permissions. There is a human-in-the-loop review process for requesting new permissions for the project.
We expect the update to happen largely transparently to you – there will be a pause in your ability to submit new slice requests or slice extension requests or use the portal services, however we expect existing slices to be unaffected and continue to function.
Notice will be posted to this thread when the update is completed.
Timeline:
Update to start on: 8am ET June 6, 2022
Update expected to complete on: 5pm ET June 6, 2022
June 6, 2022 at 4:19 pm #2007Dear experimenters,
The update is mostly completed at this point, however we did encounter some last minute problems we intend to resolve quickly. Please continue to use your existing slices, however we will for now keep the creation of new slices disabled to help sort out the last minute issues.
We also expect initially your projects may not always have the right permission tags to accomplish everything you need. Please report to us on the forums and we will adjust them.
Expected completion time: 2pm ET, June 7, 2022

June 8, 2022 at 11:26 am #2035Hey Fabric friends,
I’m working on allocating some resources for a particular project I’m working on. My Project name is “Flynet
Project for NSF Flynet project”. We are getting the following error:Error: Failed to submit slice: Status.FAILURE, (500)
Reason: INTERNAL SERVER ERROR
HTTP response headers: HTTPHeaderDict({‘Server’: ‘nginx/1.21.6’, ‘Date’: ‘Wed, 08 Jun 2022 16:11:34 GMT’, ‘Content-Type’: ‘text/html; charset=utf-8’, ‘Content-Length’: ‘130’, ‘Connection’: ‘keep-alive’, ‘Access-Control-Allow-Credentials’: ‘true’, ‘Access-Control-Allow-Headers’: ‘DNT, User-Agent, X-Requested-With, If-Modified-Since, Cache-Control, Content-Type, Range’, ‘Access-Control-Allow-Methods’: ‘GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, OPTIONS’, ‘Access-Control-Allow-Origin’: ‘*’, ‘Access-Control-Expose-Headers’: ‘Content-Length, Content-Range, X-Error’, ‘X-Error’: ‘PDP Authorization check failed – Policy Violation: Your project is lacking Component.SmartNIC tag to provision a VM with SmartNIC.’})
HTTP response body: PDP Authorization check failed – Policy Violation: Your project is lacking Component.SmartNIC tag to provision a VM with SmartNIC.With the new updates, our understanding is that we need certain permissions in order to run this experiment.
Any help will be much appreciated.
