Asking for help on FABRIC forums

When you encounter a problem with your experiment or slice, use the FABRIC forums to search for a solution first – it is possible someone has encountered this problem before and the solution has been posted.

If you decide to post to one of the user forums (‘FABRIC General Questions and Discussion‘ for general questions, ‘FABRIC Educators‘ if you are educator or a TA having trouble, or a specialized forum like ‘FPGAs in FABRIC‘) be mindful that the more information you provide in the question, the quicker the community will be able to help you.

In this article we provide some guidelines for how to ask questions so as to maximize the probability of a rapid resolution.

Do’s
Provide the following bits of information:
– Detailed description of the steps you were taking when the problem occurred
– The name and UUID of your slice or slices
– Which version of fablib you are using
– Which container type you selected, if using Jupyter Hub
– The site or sites you were using where the problem may be occurring
– Detailed cut-and-paste of the error traces or screenshots of what you are seeing. Python stack traces can be quite long, but that’s ok – more information is better.
… and Dont’s
– Don’t ask questions about applications not based on FABRIC-provided libraries – we are unlikely to be able to help
– Don’t put your credentials (like SSH keys) into the question since they are publicly readable
– Don’t ask questions about class assignments – those should be directed to your instructor or TA.

Always be polite and respectful to other forum participants.
