Getting Help

This site – FABRIC Knowledge Base is the main location of experimenter documentation. It also contains user forums for discussions between experimenters and FABRIC staff. Whenever in doubt, click the ‘Contact Us’ button and follow the directions from there – it will direct you to documentations, forums, the ticket system or office hours.

Forums

The quickest and easiest way to learn if something new is available or whether something in FABRIC is not working right (site or other maintenances) is to subscribe to the ‘FABRIC Announcements‘ forum thread.

Be sure to subscribe to FABRIC Announcements forum. First login to this site, then navigate to the forum and click the Subscribe link.

This forum is the only place where we announce maintenance events, availability of new resources, libraries, code etc. Once you subscribe to it you will be notified via email of any new posts.

Click ‘Subscribe’.

Users can use other forums, like e.g. the FABRIC General Questions and Discussion forum to ask questions about your experiments, announce community events and so on. New forums are added over time.

Visit this article to learn about best practices about posting questions on FABRIC forums.

Ticket System

A small number of specialized issues are addressed via our ticket system through the Portal – contextually placed buttons are available to do that and allow you to:

  • Report account problems (‘Contact Us’ button in the Portal – it does not require logging in first)
  • Request to become a Project Lead (Under My Roles and Projects in the Portal)
  • Request additional project permissions (Project View in the Portal)
  • Request additional resources, like persistent storage (Project View in the Portal)

All of them take you to fill out a request-specific form that creates a support ticket for FABRIC staff. You receive an email and can interact with FABRIC staff by responding to this email.

Office Hours

You can also request one-on-one discussions via the office hours for a variety of topics – assess the feasibility of your potential experiment on FABRIC, discuss how to connect your facility or campus to FABRIC and many other issues. Click on ‘Contact Us’ button, select ‘Office Hours’ and follow the prompts.
